A day offering an enticing combination of guided movement practices with a variety of expressive art techniques to delve into the connection between art and dance.

Experimenting with different cues for movement - imagery, music, words, sensations - and weaving the experience together with mark-making in charcoal & painting with colour. Dance becomes drawing, drawing becomes dance.

The course is structured with plenty of scope for your unique artistic expression and is open to all levels of prior experience, including none! A Sense of Creativity

Opening to our senses can undoubtedly stimulate our creative flow. Particular smells bring back childhood memories; music or sounds of nature evoke an ambience we can reflect on with colour, line & shape; touching, seeing & moving connect us to the world around us inviting a personal creative response.

During this course we will play with our responses to the senses, exploring a range of materials, approaches and techniques – drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, printmaking. We will gather work through these processes and develop them in exciting and experimental ways. The course is structured with plenty of scope for your unique artistic expression and is open to all levels of prior experience, including none! The key emphasis is on relaxing & dropping into the ‘now’ of the playful creative process. Each session will start with a short guided meditation.

Our Creative Director, Jo Myles, felt we had a space in our schedule of exhibitions for a democratic exhibition open-call that responds to the theme MEANDER: Land + Water.

Entries opened in November 2024, and we have been blown away by the response from Sussex-linked artists who have responded to be part of this exciting project.

Democratic means artists and makers secure their automatic place in the exhibition without a selection panel, judges, or prizes. Jo will curate the works on site, believing that a well-curated exhibition in a beautiful space allows any work to sing and shine collectively.

All works are for sale, with 70% of the sale price going directly to the artist.

We aim to present the biggest exhibition of Sussex-linked artists and makers possible in one beautifully curated exhibition. We can't wait to receive the work and get hanging!

We return to the beautiful BN9 STUDIO this March, managed by the ever-brilliant @creativenewhaven
